King Hu Restaurant 京滬飯店, nestled in Kota Kinabalu, has long been a staple for those in search of authentic Chinese cuisine. Revered particularly for its Peking Duck, this bustling eatery consistently draws crowds, with patrons recommending reservations to bypass potential waits. The duck stands out for its tender meat, although reviews note variability in the crispiness of the skin. Diners, like Ivy Ong, praise the complementary set of wraps, spring onions, and the renowned duck bone soup, which exudes a rich flavor profile worthy of a second helping.

Mark Leo adds depth to the experience, noting the restaurant’s nostalgic charm—its vintage tiles evoking a sense of homeliness. While some dishes, like the lemon chicken, might miss the mark, the duck bone soup and fried Mun Tao shine as reliable highlights. Cheung You reminisces about the butter or salted egg prawns, though they may lack the expected buttery flavor, the freshness of the prawns remains commendable.

Nick, a returning customer, reflects on the positive evolution of the roast duck, which he finds closer to the traditional Peking style he cherishes. With over 30 years of history, King Hu balances nostalgia with culinary satisfaction, making it a must-visit for both locals and travelers alike. Whether you're drawn by the Peking Duck or other delicacies, the warm atmosphere and quick service create a delightful dining experience.

Reviewers often highlight the restaurant’s consistent popularity and recommend making reservations to avoid waiting. The Peking Duck is praised for its tender meat and flavorful broth, though opinions on the crispiness of the skin vary. The menu offers unique items such as cold trotters, which receive positive mentions for freshness and distinctiveness. This place is constantly full and best to make a booking in advance. We went to try our luck and waited for about 20mins, not too bad today. The duck was flavourful and tender but unfortunately the skin is not crispy. My friend said usually it’s crispy. The set contains Peking Duck, Wrap, Spring onions and Duck Bone Soup. Cold Trotters was unique and fresh. Can give it a try too.

This place is definitely old school, looking at their tiles for the floor and the walls (these sizes are not common and even considered rare these days). Famous for its duck and cold trotters, the food has a homely taste. Definitely not punchy but subtle flavours of the duck which is delicate at times. We ordered the lemon chicken (so-so), tofu and vege. What I did enjoy was the duck bone soup. Overall, the meal here was satisfying and the fried Mun tao was really good as well. Wished I had a butter sauce to accompany the fried Mun Tau. Would come back here again whenever I am back in Kota Kinabalu.

I’ve eaten here before, but today’s lunch was a pleasant surprise. The roast duck I had this time was much closer in style to Peking Duck, the skin was crispy and well-prepared. As usual, the set came with wraps and a bowl of duck soup. The soup was milky white, flavorful and filled with duck bones and meat. It’s a pity they didn't serve duck noodle soup, which a perfect match to their soup. This place carries a strong sense of nostalgia. It has changed hands years ago, but it feels like the old familiar taste is finally making a comeback.

Existed ever since childhood, more than 30 years. It's a Non-Halal, indoor air-conditioning chinese restaurant. Most known with their Peking Duck. Always crowded especially during the weekends. Rsvp needed to avoid disappointment/long waiting queue. Food taste is delicious especially the Peking Duck Service is fast. Price are average. Cleanliness still can improved

First off, a reservation is a must, especially during dinner when it gets crowded. Without one, expect a wait outside. The service inside was swift, with food arriving within 15 minutes. Moving on to the food, everything we ordered was delicious. Highlights included the Beijing Duck Set with crispy skin, pancakes and flavorful sauce. The String Bean with Sliced Pork and Fried Mantao were also delightful.

Recently had the chance of dining at King Hu Restaurant for birthday party, and I must say, it was an absolute culinary delight. No matter anytime, it is always full crowded of customer cause of its popular and high rating place. The menu here is a treasure trove of Chinese culinary delights. Ordered King Hu Beijing Duck Set, Cold Trotters, Steam Tients in Cabbage, String Bean with Slice Pork, Duck Bone Soup, Fried Mantao & Sweet and Sour Pork. Chop. Every dish is delicious with the essence of authentic Chinese cuisine and it get a well-deserved 4.5⭐ out of 5⭐ for me.
